Ethiopia’s new biofuel policy to include incentives and promote private sector participation

In Ethiopia, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas is drafting the proclamation, regulation and directives that will open the biofuel industry to private companies along the entire supply chain including development, production, distribution and the sales of biofuels. The new rules have been under development for the past two years with the contribution of 22 entities including ministries and private sector. They will include incentives for investment as well as mechanisms for small and medium-sized enterprises to collaborate with larger companies to help achieve scale quickly.
