In Brazil, FS Bioenergia broke ground last week on its second corn-based ethanol plant in Mato Grosso. The US$267 million facility is expected to come online in 2020 when it will produce 530 million liters of ethanol annually—double the size of its current facility in Lucas do Rio Verde—and will power the plant by using a 30,000 hectare eucalyptus plantation. The company is also doubling the size of the Lucas do Rio Verde plant to bring it in line with the new facility located in Sorriso, bringing the company’s total production to a billion liters annually.
