China’s data redo shows 20% higher corn production in 2017

In China, showing just how important proper data collection is, Reuters reports that following a major data overall the country has determined that its 2017 corn production was 20% higher than originally reported at nearly 216 metric million when the actual production was 259 million tons. Some analysts speculated that the larger crop was due to an increase in production in northeastern farms that hadn’t been previously reported but demand data is also expected to be revised higher so ending stocks aren’t impacted.
