India finally hits E5 mandate during 2017/18

In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports that the country finally achieved 5% ethanol blending in the 12 months through November at 1.5 billion liters of ethanol blended, up from 1.11 billion liters the year prior, although oil marketing companies did contract for 1.6 billion liters. More than 600 million liters was sources from Uttar Pradesh while the remainder came from other major sugarcane-producing states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. With the deregulation of feedstocks this past June, it’s possible that ethanol blending could reach 8% during 2018/19.
