Steeper Energy, Sustainable Shipping Initiative and others join RSB membership

May 5, 2019 |

In Switzerland, the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials has several new members including Steeper Energy, the Sustainable Shipping Initiative, the Namibia Biomass Industry Group, and GoodFuels which moved from Associate to Full Membership.

Joining RSB represents a major step for Steeper Energy, showcasing their commitment to every aspect of sustainability in the bio-economy. With a €50 M joint demonstration project with Norway’s Silva Green Fuels A/S – the first phase of a multi-phase project to transform the site of a former pulp mill in Tofte, Norway into a circa €200 M, 100 M fuel-ton production, advanced biofuels production plant – underway, RSB is excited to see Steeper build sustainability into their projects from the ground up.

New RSB member Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI)’s interest in biofuels is reflected in its Roadmap which explores possible alternative energy sources – including biofuels – to reduce CO2 emissions as one of six key vision areas. As part of their commitment to Low Carbon Shipping, SSI has convened a Biofuels Working Group composed of representatives from Bunge, The China Navigation Company, IMC, Lloyds Register, Louis Dreyfus Company, A.P. Moeller-Maersk, Oldendorff Carriers as well as Forum for the Future and WWF.
