Brazilian ethanol production seen falling in 2019/20 by 4%

In Brazil, Platts reports that CONAB data shows ethanol production will likely be around 31.75 billion liters during the 2019/20 season, down around 4% on the year, despite of expectations that the overall sugarcane crush is seen as flat on the year at almost 616 million metric tons. With global sugar prices still depressed, mills are expected to continue their heavy focus on ethanol production rather than switch back to sugar. Anhydrous ethanol production is seen recovering by 16% to 11.1 billion liters while hydrous is expected to slip more than 12% to 20.65 billion liters.
