Vietnam to review E5 policy as consumption dips again

May 8, 2019 |

In Vietnam, despite pushing E5 heavily and a fuel shortage earlier in the year that forced drivers to fill up with ethanol-blended gasoline, local press reports that the government is concerned by a drop-off in E5 consumption so has called for a policy review to see what other measures can be taken. Consumption of E5 fell to less than 20% market share in March from an average of more than 30% in 2018. The price gap between premium fuel and E5 isn’t enough to encourage drivers to switch so it may be an area of focus during the review.
