Maharashtra looks at possible $72 million fund to help coop mills boost ethanol production

In India, the Hindu newspaper reports that Maharashtra is looking to develop a $72 million fund for coop sugar mills to encourage increased investment in ethanol production capacity as well as infrastructure. Mills have been struggling under the double yoke of low sugar prices and high cane prices mandated by the state, so the state is in turn looking to help relieve that pressure with the additional financing mechanism that would reduce the sugar surplus.
