Indonesia biodiesel demand seen jumping nearly 55% on B30 mandate

July 17, 2019 |

In Indonesia, Reuters reports that achieving the B30 mandate next year as planned will increase biodiesel consumption to 9.6 billion liters from 6.2 billion liters now with the B20 mandate in place, a nearly 55% jump. During the first half of this year, the country consumed 2.89 billion liters. In an effort to shore up its currency that was collapsing under the weight of foreign exchange payments primarily for fossil fuel imports, Indonesia decided to boost its biodiesel blending mandate to reduce those imports while also reducing the surplus of palm oil weighing on prices domestically and in the region.
