Philippines’ Congress to investigate high molasses prices making ethanol uneconomical

In the Philippines, Business World reports that the shortage of molasses that has led to prices so high that ethanol production will soon become inviable due to oil companies refusing to pay top dollar for domestic ethanol despite the quota system requiring its purchase will now come under investigation by a Congressional committee following the session’s reopening last week. The Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Biofuels has vowed to look at the situation amongst the sugarcane sector to see what measures can be taken to lower the price of feedstock.
