Indonesian and Malaysian presidents meeting to strategize over EU palm oil problem

August 7, 2019 |

In Indonesia, Foreign Brief reports that the country’s president is meeting with his Malaysian counterpart to strategize about how to tackle the European threat to their palm oil exports. On the table are suspending free trade talks with Europe and canceling billions of dollars’ worth of trade deals in retaliation for Europe having ignored the two country’s overtures conveyed in a letter in April. They have also launched a formal complaint at the WTO over the ban on palm oil for biofuels set for 2020.
