London Stansted to have all coffee waste turned into bio-bean logs

October 17, 2019 |

In the UK, the East Anglian Daily Times newspaper reports that London Stansted Airport has teamed with bio-bean to transform all of the coffee bean waste produced at the airport’s 21 concession stands, restaurants and cafes into biofuel following a successful trial. The first 2,000 logs produced from coffee bean grounds will be given away to staff and local residents. The airport produces about 150 metric tons of coffee ground waste per year from some 6 million cups of coffee, but a coffee log that can be used in fireplaces can be produced from the waste of just 25 cups of coffee.
