Chhattisgarh to build six 2G ethanol plants to tackle paddy burning

November 7, 2019 |

In India, the Economic Times newspaper reports that the state of Chhattisgarh in the heart of India’s “rice bowl” is set to invest in six 2G ethanol plants using paddy straw and husks as feedstock. The capital is currently choking from extreme air pollution, so bad that some flights were diverted earlier in the week, partly as a result of burning paddy waste. The key for the state was to create a market for every part of the plant to ensure that farmers would sell it rather than burn it.
