Ben-Gurion University researchers develop gas production technology using supercritical water

December 26, 2019 |

In Israel, China’s Xinhua news agency reports that researchers at Ben-Gurion University have developed new technology that uses a thermal treatment based on supercritical water to produce gas from organic waste. Supercritical water can actively decompose organic matter while dissolving inorganic matter slightly. Wood waste and glycerin were used as feedstocks in the lab trials. Researchers say the process is 20% more efficient than current technologies and are plans are currently under development to build a pilot plant.
