US-Iran tensions help to push methanol prices higher globally

January 13, 2020 |

In the UK, ICIS reports that US-Iran tensions along with higher prices in the US and Asia are supporting European methanol prices, pushing them to a four-month high to near €225/metric ton compared to below €200/ton heading into the end of 2019. European producers had worried about the possibility of tight margins in 2020 but political tensions have raised prices and in turn eased pricing concerns. Spot prices are currently running lower than contracts thanks to supply availability.
