Italian watchdog fines Eni €5 million for calling its palm oil HVO green

January 15, 2020 |

In Italy, Government Europa reports that Italy’s competition authority has fined Eni €5 million, the highest fine allowed, claiming the company has been deceiving customers since 2016 by claiming its Eni Diesel+ was green when the watchdog says it isn’t because the feedstock used has high ILUC emissions. Eni Diesel+ uses 15% HVO from palm oil. The complaint was originally brought to the watchdog by Transport & Environment along with two environmental Italian NGOs trying to end the use of palm oil.
