Pertamina exchanges Eni for UOP over palm oil sustainability

In Indonesia, Reuters reports that state-owned Pertamina has decided to call off its year-old cooperation deal with Eni to jointly develop biodiesel production because Eni required that palm oil have internationally-recognized certification even though the fuel would be produced in Indonesia. Palm oil sustainability has come under increased scrutiny over recent years as Europe tightens its rules against “unsustainable” feedstock. Instead of working with Eni, the company will instead partner with UOP on technology. The facility, planned for operation from 2024, will produce 1 billion liters of “green diesel” annually.
