EPA looking at ways to help refiners deal with RIN costs

March 4, 2020 |

In Washington, Reuters reports that the Environmental Protection Agency is looking for ways to help oil refiners deal with the cost of RINs while also working to provide stability to RIN prices that have a tendency to react strongly to potential policy shifts or approvals of small refinery exemptions. The administrator of the EPA told a congressional hearing that the agency was working on solutions but didn’t provide insight as to when they might be announced, which were expected this week, as it is also consulting with the Department of Justice about how to handle the January U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit ruling that put exemptions into doubt.
