Canadian salmon cull to be used as biofuel feedstock

April 30, 2020 |

In Canada, Undercurrent News reports that Norwegian salmon giant Mowi had to cull 450,000 of its young salmon at its hatchery in Newfoundland and Labrador following a disease outbreak. The young salmon will be used for biofuel feedstock at a facility within the province, but it wasn’t indicated who would do the processing nor how much biofuel would be produced from the culled salmon. The Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development has some pilot biodiesel production from fish waste.
