Copa and Cogeca tell European Commission about COVID-19 impacts on biofuel industry

April 30, 2020 |

In Belgium, in a letter sent last week to the European Commission, Copa and Cogeca expressed their concerns about the potential consequences of the Covid-19 crisis on the vegetable oils, biodiesel, protein-rich by-products like rapeseed and sunflower meals and DDGS, and ethanol sectors. Faced with falling European production and social distancing measures in the EU and worldwide due to the pandemic, protein-rich plant by-product markets risk entering into a phase of greater instability, as a result of lower demand in the biofuel sector and lower EU production of protein crops. In this context, the European farmers and cooperatives organizations are calling for a set of rapid actions that could limit major disruptions.
