Commercial service, on aviation biofuels, comes to Mexico

July 22, 2011 |

In Mexico, commercial airline service using aviation biofuels commenced yesterday with Interjet’s flight  2605, on an Airbus A320-214, which serves the Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutierrez  market. at approximately 3:45 EST.

The fuel for the flight was produced using process technology developed by Honeywell UOP.

The process converts natural fats and oils into Green Jet Fuel that is blended with petroleum-based jet fuel for flight. At a 50/50 blend, the Green Jet Fuel is a drop-in replacement that meets all specifications for flight with no changes to the aircraft or engine. Made from sustainable sources, like the jatropha used for Interjet’s flight, Green Jet Fuel also offers as much as an 85% net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to petroleum-based jet fuel.
