In Qatar, Qatar University is scaling their aviation biofuels project up to 25,000 liter tanks with the hope that a pre-commercialization pilot plant will be constructed with 1.5 million liter tanks in the near future. The project has isolated cyanobacteria and micro algae that are unique to the waters of Qatar that are capable of producing scalable aviation biofuels without being land-intensive. The research team detailed the progress of the project publicly for the first time, as they gave Roberto Gonzales, President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization a tour of the facilities last week.
