In Argentina, Dow AgroSciences has launched their POWERCORE corn hybrid product, which combines two herbicide-tolerant genes plus three genes resistant to pests of economic importance to Argentina and is the first product approved in Argentina with five genes stacked in corn. One significant advantage of POWERCORE is that it reduces the refuge area to five percent instead of the traditional ten percent refuge recommended for other technologies. The product combines control of pests such as Fall armyworm, Sugarcane borer, Corn earworm, Corn stalk borer and Black cutworm. POWERCORE will be for sale in Iate 2012 in Argentina and Brazil.
