California releases draft green chemicals regulations

In California, the Department of Toxic Substances Control has released their official proposed regulation, a central part of California’s Green Chemistry Initiative, required by AB 1879.  Linda Adams, Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency, stated, “This regulation propels California to the forefront of the nation and the world with the most comprehensive Green Chemistry program and will lead to safer products for consumers.”

After the Office of Administrative Law finishes their review and posts their official notification, there will be a 45 day period for comment will begin.  Also, there is a hearing scheduled for November 1, 2010.  Maziar Movassaghi. DTSC Acting Director, stated, “This regulation will facilitate California’s transition from managing toxic chemicals at the end of their lifecycle to designing products and processes that are more environmentally benign.”
