Labland Biotech announces new jatropha biodiesel plant in India
Labland Biotech announced that it will complete a 55-ton per day jatropha biodiesel refinery in Mysore by the end of 2008. The announcement comes as Brazil announced its intention to export biodiesel to India, and as India struggles to find domestic sources rapidly for its fast-growing biofuels needs. India has been hard hit by the rapid increase in world oil prices and has sought to utilize extensive amounts of less-arable land for jatropha cultivation.
Labland signed agreements with Gujarat state, Bihar state and Kanataka Backward Classes Development to acquire the land. Labland also indicated it has been invited by Sarawak state in Malaysia to establish a facility there on a 500 acre facility. An announcement is due shortly on the proposed involvement of Labland in a 2.4 million acre jatropha plantation in Mozambique.
