Biofuels Digest Index (BDI) up 0.66% to 103.29 as oil prices spike
The Biofuels Digest Indexâ„¢ (BDI), a basket of 21 major public biofuel stocks, rose 0.66% today to 103.29 as energy stocks increased in the wake of higher oil prices.
US crude oil leaped to $75.08 a barrel as concerns about the impact of hurricane season grew among investors.
VeraSun Energy (VSE) was up 3.1% to $13.3499 on news of investment in the Q microbe technology for one-step cellulosic ethanol conversion. Other major gainers were Archer-Daniels Midland (ADM), up $0.10 to $33.70, Andersons up $1.74 to $49.00 and US BioEnergy (USBE) up $0.31 to $10.72. New Gen Technologies (NWGN.OB) was off $0.04 to $0.10, and Earth Biofuels was down 16% to $0.068.
In the broader markets, the Dow Jones Industrials were up 133.15 to 13,490.89, the S&P 500 was up 22.06 to 1496.05, and the Nasdaq was up 47.00 to 2643.36. The markets reacted positively to US automotive sales results, a jump in technology spending, and increased oil prices which boosted energy stocks.
