PNOC-Alternative Fuels and NRG Chemical Engineering cancel deal to develop jatropha biodiesel

In the Philippines, a deal between PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corp and British-based NRG Chemical Engineering to construct a jatropha plantation and biodiesel plant has collapsed. The plan called for a 3.5 million metric tonne biodiesel plant and a 300,000 metric tonne ethanol plant.

The cancellation comes as the country moves to a B1 standard which will increase to B2 next year. Philippine ethanol-only projects have also struggled to close financing, as the country inches toward an E5 mandate in 2009. Jatropha projects have been popular of late, with several projects being announced in India.
