In Iowa, Unity Ethanol and Cedar River Ethanol have announced a merger. The development-stage company created by the merger is projected to produce 100 mgy of corn ethanol. The 100 Mgy figure has been recently discussed as a minimum production output for a company to be a viable player in the ethanol business over the long-term. The consolidation comes as the industry struggles in the current credit conditions to find fresh capital for new plants and expansions.
