Atlantic Ethanol, Mid-Atlantic Ethanol, Florida Ethanol, and Palmetto Agri-Fuels merge to form East Coast Ethanol; will have 400 mgy capacity

Atlantic Ethanol, Mid-Atlantic Ethanol, Florida Ethanol, and Palmetto Agri-Fuels, announced a merger to form East Coast Ethanol. The new company will develop four 100 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plants.

Since the CEO of Cargill, among others, pointed out the waning appetite of investors for new ethanol projects and the need for consolidation to achieve economies of scale. Both Poet and Archer-Daniels-Midland are at the billion gallon mark as ethanol producers.

In Iowa, Unity Ethanol and Cedar River Ethanol, and Great Lakes and Green Plains, announced mergers in the past 60 days.
