North Iredell Neighbors For Rural Life have sued to overturn a county’s zoning approval of a biodiesel plant near Statesville.
The group says that it is concerned about safety issues associated with oil production, and the lack of industrial infrastructure to handle such a project. They also say the plant will increase truck traffic on a rural route that also is a school bus route.
The project recently received a county zoning variance based on benefits such as job creation and agricultural diversification.
