150 Mgy of new ethanol capacity announced in Minnesota, Australia
Global ethanol capacity is increasing 150 Mgy with two projects in Minnesota and Australia moving forward.
In Australia, Agri Energy is planning a $100 million ethanol plant in western Victoria for completion by the end of 2009. Australian efforts for biofuels expansion have received more attention of late as Western Australian sugarcane farmers have turned to ethanol production to escape the downward pressure on global sugar prices, and a statewide campaign to support the state premier’s ethanol initiative in Queensland gets underway.
In Minnesota, a 50 Mgy corn ethanol plant in Eyota received a $300,000 incentive from the USDA as the project takes off, which will assist with start-up expenses.
