110 million gallon per year ethanol plant proposed for Indiana
Indiana Biofuels has announced plants to develop a 110 Mgy ethanol plant in Indiana. The plant will also produce 275,000 tons of distiller dried grain (animal feed), 15,000 metric tons of corn oil and 270,000 tons of raw carbon dioxide per year and produce 135 million tons of pollutants.
The proposal comes as other biofuel projects in the US and internationally have run into trouble in maintaining profitability, or obtaining finance and permits. Projects in Iowa, Kansas, and Virginia have announced difficulties in the past week in moving towards opening, while two biodiesel plants in Texas and an ethanol plant in Spain have been idled by high feedstock prices.
The Indiana biofuel industry has enjoyed strong political support from Washington, and Sen. Richard Lugar has co-sponsored a 60 billion gallon biofuel target for 2030.
