US biofuel projects advance in Chester County, South Carolina; Harvey County, Kansas; and Plains, Georgia
Three US biofuels projects are advancing towards completion and launch in Kansas, Georgia, and South Carolina.
In South Carolina, Chester County officials are set to give their final approval to a 100 Mgy corn ethanol project this week. The plant would open in 2008, create 60 jobs and may be expended to include cellulosic ethanol production.
A second Chester County, SC project has moved from planning commission approval to zoning approval. The 50 Mgy cellulosic ethanol plant would open in 2010 and employ 40 people.
In Kansas, North Central Energy Group has optioned land for a second corn ethanol facility in Harvey County. The group will conduct water studies before proceeding.
In Georgia, Alterra announced a soy- and chicken fat-based biodiesel plant in Plains, the home of former US President Jimmy Carter.
