The renewable energy industry in Germany recorded sales of $32.4 billion, exports of $8.5 billion, and accrued investments of $12.7 billion, according to Invest in Germany. Biodiesel accounted for $4.5 billion in sales and will generate $22.6 billion in investment by 2012.
Last month, the European Biodiesel Board reported increased biodiesel production in the EU to 1.2 billion gallons in 2006, up 54% from 2005. The Board’s latest report shows 185 biodiesel plants in operation, and another 58 plants under construction in the EU. The EU has increased overall production more than 100% since 2004. Germany, France and Italy continue to dominate production, with Italy recently becoming a strong producer as well.
