US Presidential candidates: I love ethanol
An article in USA Today covers the presidential candidate support for ethanol, tying that support to their political campaigning in the period leading up to the critical Iowa caucuses in January. “Prepare for three words,” says the article, ” I love ethanol.”
Earlier this week, US Presidential Candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) released his energy policy, which called for a cap-and-trade emissions policy and investment of $150 billion in new alternative energy technologies. Senator Obama proposed a 80% greenhouse gas emission reduction target for 2050.
Last week, US Presidential candidate Fred Thompson told reporters that he was reversing his position on ethanol. Thompson had voted against two key ethanol bills in the 1990s when he served in the US Senate.
In August, former Senator John Edwards outlined his energy policy, which included a school bus biodiesel program, increased CAFE standards, biofuel production and infrastructure mandates and incentives, and investment in automotive and fuel technology.
