A study by the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment issued a report on potential global biodiesel production capacity. The report details a total global potential of 105 billion gallons. The report focuses on existing fuel crops, primarily soybeans and palm oil. The report assumed that any export of feedstocks represented an excess capacity over the domestic need of the feedstock for food consumption. The report’s authors then examined the cost of biofuels production, and compared it to the market prices to see how much capacity could be absorbed by current world demand.
