In Louisiana, the Lacassine sugar ethanol plant is expected to be operational by October 2008. The plant’s construction marks a return to sugar ethanol for Louisiana, which had several plants operating in the 1980s before the Louisiana legislature cancelled a subsidy program due to low oil prices. Louisiana mandates E2 and B2 biofuels blends for fuel sold in the state.
In August, BioEnergy International closed $61.6 million in funding which included capital for a planned ethanol plant expansion in Louisiana.
