Massachusetts announces biofuels policy: producer credits, B2 and E10 mandates proposed, and task force to study long-term policies
In Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray, House Speaker Sal DiMasi, and U.S. Congressman Bill Delahunt announced the creation of a MA Biofuels Task Force, and legislation to spark the state’s renewable fuel industry.
A report prepared by the Northeast Biofuels Collaborative will be used by state officials as a blueprint for moving forward. The report notes that Massachusetts is more susceptible than any other U.S. region to fuel shortages and pump price spikes, and is the third largest heating oil market in the U.S. The report calls on Massachusetts to immediately introduce B2 and E10 mandates and a 15-20 cent producer credit, while establishing a Biofuels Task Force to design a more comprehensive biofuels program.
