Merconsult and Destillint form JV to produce sugarcane ethanol in Belize

In Belize, Merconsult (Panama) and Destillint (Mexico) have formed a JV to acquire the idle Libertad Sugar Factory and produce ethanol. Project investment is estimated at $25 million.

Belize is entering the biofuels market slowly compared to robust efforts in Panama and the Caribbean. In August, Blue Diamond Ventures selected BEI Engineers to design and build a 3-6 Mgy biodiesel pilot production plant in Belize, with immediate plans to expand capacity up to 100 Mgy.
