Shell exec: Tie biofuels incentives to specific carbon reductions from each fuel type
Royal Dutch Shell executive Graham Sweeney said that government policymakers should link biofuels incentives to the carbon-reducing qualities of the fuel. He said that mandates do not take into account the differing carbon footprints of biofuels, and that linnking incentives to carbon savings would provide a return on investment on new technologies that offered a higher field-to-wheels carbon savings.
Shell has purchased an undisclosed stake in stake in Codexis, a company which manufactures enzymes for the cellulosic ethanol production process. Codexis executives said that they expect to build a commercial production facility for cellulosic ethanol by 2012.
