Panda Ethanol receives air permit for Texas ethanol plant; will utilize 500K tons of manure for steam production from biogas
Panda Ethanol received the air quality permit for its 115 Mgy ethanol plant in Muleshoe. The plant will utilize up to 500,000 tons of cattle manure per year to generate biogas that will be used for steam generation.
Texas has been known for biodiesel production until the increase in soybean oil prices shuttered several plants and halted industry growth. Texas currently has one plant producing ethanol, in Cleburne.
In September, Tetra Point Fuels won approval for an 5 Mgy ethanol plant that will convert expired or defective soda, beer, sports drinks and other sugary liquids to ethanol. Also in September, Ceres and Texas A&M signed an agreement to develop a cellulosic process for sorghum, that would use leaves and stalks. Previously, the two groups had signed an agreement to develop sorghum hybrids to enhance cellulosic ethanol productivity. Under the agreement, Ceres will have the rights for two years to new hybrids created by Texas A&M researchers.
