Eastern Renewable Fuels to invest $43 million in Philippine ethanol project; China’s Guangxi State Farm may join as JV partner
In the Philippines, Eastern Renewable Fuels said it would invest $43 million in an ethanol plant in central Mindanao. The plant has a planned capacity of 19 Mgy of ethanol. Eastern said it was negotiating with Guangxi State Farm in mainland China for a joint venture. Eastern is also investigating cassava plantations in the General Santos City (Socsksargen) area.
In China, Guangxi province has mandated E10, as the provinces 65 Mgy of ethanol production capacity comes online. Capacity in the province is expected to reach 100 Mgy by next year when a Beihai Gofar Marine Biological project is completed.
China has recently announced abandonment of ethanol projects that use foodstocks, excepting existing plants and those already under construction. China is the third-largest ethanol producer, behind Brazil and the US.
