India Glycols acquired a a 96.56% stake in Shakumbari Sugar & Allied Industries for $12 million. Shakumbari Sugar has a sugarcane ethanol output of 4 Mgy. India Glycols will double the sugarcane crushing capacity and increase the ethanol production capacity to 25 Mgy.

The news follows the announcement last week by Praj that it would take a 54 percent stake in a joint venture with Jaragua Equipments to pursue increased sales of ethanol plant equipment and systems improvement tools into the Brazilian market.

Recently, Praj and Tata Chemicals established a joint venture to construct a $10 million sweet sorghum based ethanol plant in Maharashta, India.
