South Bukidnon signs agreement with government for cultivation of ethanol feedtocks in the Philippines
In the Philippines, South Bukidnon Bioenergy said that it has sign an agreement with the Department of Agrarian Reform for cultivation of ethanol feedstocks for its 12 Mgy ethanol plant. The developers said that up to 22,000 acres would have to be devoted to sugarcane production for the plant to be viable. The plant is scheduled to open in 2010.
Earlier this fall, South Bukidnon Bioenergy announced its $92 million in sugarcane ethanol plant and a 10-megawatt co-generation plant from bagasse.
This year, nine Philippine companies have pledged more than $440 million towards biofuels production investment. The companies include: Bio-Energy NL; E-Cane/Pampanga Industrial Park.; Philippine Agricultural Land Development and Mill; Zambo Norte Bioenergy; Philippine National Oil Company-Alternative Fuels, Guidance Management, Fuel Inc, South Bukidnon Bioenergy, and Eastern Petroleum.
The Philippines have a B1 and E5 mandate scheduled to go into effect in 2009, rising to B2 and E10 in 2011. Philippine demand for biofuels is expected to rise to 187 million galls of ethanol and 54 gallons of biodiesel by 2011.
