Empire Green Biofuels to break ground on $185 million ethanol plant in New York

In New York, Empire Green Biofuels expects to break ground on plant construction this spring. The proposed ethanol and steam-producing plant would cost $185 million. Plant capacity and feedstocks were not disclosed.

Western New York Energy opened its 50 Mgy corn ethanol plant in Orleans County, NY. The $90 million plant will produce distillers grains and 95,000 tons of carbon dioxide for beverage companies.

It is the first ethanol plant in New York. Northeast Biofuels will open its Volney plant early next year. The ethanol facility, on an old Miller Brewing plant site, will be the largest in the Northeast with a production capacity of 100 Mgy.

Earlier, GS CleanTech Corporation inked an agreement with Northeast Biofuels to extract 10 Mgy of crude corn oil from the distillers grain produced at NEB’s 114 Mgy ethanol plant in Volney. under the agreement, GS CleanTech will provide an extraction system to NEB and in turn receives a right to purchase the extracted corn oil at a contract price.
