Abu Dhabi unveils $15 billion in renewables projects through Masdar Initiative
In the United Arab Emirates, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi announced an $15 billion investment project in solar, wind, hydrogen, carbon reduction, sustainable development, education, manufacturing and research. The investment will be managed through the emirate’s Masdar Initiative, which will leverage the initial investment through joint ventures and other partnerships that will greatly expand the portfolio size.
Masdar’s major initiative in bio-fuels is focused on jatropha and other arid climate crops. Abu Dhabi has a major drive at de-desertification, and Masdar aims to add value to the initiative.
They are already in the signature stages of a pilot project on jatropha with BP to conduct the research on varietals and yields. BP is partering with TERI (India) for this research.
