Winter X Games convert to biodiesel
In Colorado, the Winter X Games has converted to biodiesel; buses and snowcats will be powered by fuel made from kitchen grease. The organizers of the Games said that they would make compost from left overs and make plates and napkins from sugarcane byproducts, in an effort to demonstrate concern for the environment.
The Games are one of many organizations related to snow sports who have converted to biodiesel.
The Wachusett Mountain ski resort in Massachusetts converted its snow cats and backup generators to biodiesel. The resort is generating the biodiesel through a cooking oil recycling program.
Mount Sunapee Resort, which converted its snow grooming and snow removal equipment to B20 biodiesel, and converted its hearing systems to B5.
In Colorado, the Aspen/Snowmass ski resorts have also converted their snowcats to biodiesel.
Cranmore Mountain Resort in New Hampshire reported that its fleet of trucks, which operate on B20, have experienced no problems relating to the effect of cold on biodiesel, at temperatures as low as minus 20 Fahrenheit.
