East Coast Ethanol abandons proposed ethanol project in North Carolina
In North Carolina, East Coast Ethanol has canceled plans to develop an ethanol plant in Selma. The company withdrew an application for re-zomning. but did not announce the reasons for the decision.
East Coast Ethanol had proposed a 110 Mgy corn ethanol plant in Selma last December. Total project investment was projected at $130 million, but the firm had not outlined a construction timetable.
Selma officials had said that the town had the excess water capacity to supply the 1.2 million gallons of water required per day by the proposed plant.
In September, Atlantic Ethanol, Mid-Atlantic Ethanol, Florida Ethanol, and Palmetto Agri-Fuels, announced a merger to form East Coast Ethanol. At the time of the merger, the company announced plans to develop four 100 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plants. The Selma plant was the first to be announced.
