In Brazil, the northeastern states of Tocantins, Piaui and Maranhao signed an agreement to study an ethanol pipeline. The pipeline would move ethanol from the three states to Itaqui Port in Maranhao, and facilitate expansion of exports to the Caribbean and the US. Sources close to the principals in the agreement said that the agreement only involves a study of costs and financing options at this stage.
