Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, on the Renewable Fuel Standard waiver request:  ”It ought not be left hanging…a reasonable decision is to deny the Texas waiver, and [the EPA] should do it forthwith. Ethanol is keeping gas 24 to 40 cents cheaper than it otherwise would be. So consumers are benefiting from that, and that should not be overlooked.”

State Senator Vicki Walker of Oregon, explaining her switch from voting last year for the Oregon E10 standard to pushing for a repeal:  “I’m at 33.6 on this tank, which is horrible. It’s absolutely horrible gas mileage. And it makes me say to myself why did I buy a hybrid when I’m losing all this mileage that I’m supposed to have.”
